Tarbela Dam is located in Swabi district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It was completed in 1976 on the Indus River and is the largest earth filled dam in the world. The dam provides irrigation water and hydroelectric power to Pakistan. It also helps in flood control. Over time sedimentation has reduced the storage capacity of the dam. Despite this limitation Tarbela remains one of the most important projects in Pakistan for supporting agriculture and energy production.
