The North American Free Trade Agreement was signed in 1994 between the United States Canada and Mexico. It removed many tariffs and created one of the largest free trade zones in the world. In 2020 it was replaced by the United States Mexico Canada Agreement which updated rules on labor environment and digital trade. NAFTA remains significant as an early model of deep regional economic integration.
