Pakistan conducted nuclear tests on 28 May 1998 at Chagai in Balochistan. The tests were carried out in response to Indian nuclear explosions earlier in the same month. With these tests Pakistan became the first Muslim country and the seventh nation in the world to have nuclear weapons. The day is celebrated as Youm e Takbeer. These tests gave Pakistan a strong deterrent capability and established strategic balance in South Asia.
