The Liaqat Nehru Pact also known as the Delhi Pact was signed in 1950 between Prime Minister Liaqat Ali Khan of Pakistan and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of India. The agreement gave protection to religious minorities in both countries. It promised equal citizenship property rights and freedom of religion. The pact reduced communal violence and built trust between the two states in the early years after Partition. It remains one of the most important bilateral agreements in South Asia.
