When was the Kashmir issue taken to the United Nations by India

India brought the Kashmir dispute to the United Nations on 1 January 1948 following the first war between India and Pakistan. The UN called for a ceasefire and proposed a plebiscite to allow the people of Kashmir to decide their future. The plebiscite was never held and the dispute remains unresolved. This move internationalized the Kashmir issue and it has since become one of the most enduring conflicts in South Asia.
